Case Binding

Case bound books have a hard-back cover. They are produced by stacking multiple printed signatures, or sections, on top of one another similar to perfect binding. However, the sections are sewn together to provide extra strength and this 'book block' is trimmed on three edges before being glued into a hard back cover. The cover (spine, front cover and back cover) is a single piece made from board which is then covered in paper or cloth. The first and last sheets of the book block are then glued to the inside of the cover.

Case binding is the most expensive yet most durable type of binding possible.
