Collating is the process of batching a specific number of sheets into a standard quantity and order. Each set (or batch) can contain one or more of each sheet. Collating is usually specified as a number of sets and sheets, for example 100 sets of 50 sheets. In this example the job would contain 100 x 50 = 5000 individual sheets.
The collated sets may then be bound into a brochure or pad, or left as loose sheets to be inserted into a ring binder or presentation folder. The sheets are normally collated using a machine which removes the time consuming task of collating by hand.
