Some of the most common basic fold types are shown here. We consider any 1-directional fold to be a basic fold, where the folding is performed in a single direction in relation to the sheet of paper.

The simplest but also one of the most common types of fold, the 4-page half fold can be used on most simple products. Although the fold is usually positioned in the centre of the width or height to create a 4-page booklet, the sheets can also be folded off centre to give an interesting effect where the overlapping fold produces different sized panels.

After the 4-page half fold this fold is the most common type of fold that we produce. Customers most often use a 6-page roll fold on an A4 leaflet to produce a DL (99 x 210mm) finished size that is perfect for conveying information.

This fold is generally used to produce a DL finished sized similar to the 6-page roll fold, with the addition of an extra panel. It is used when there is too much information to fit on a 6-page leaflet. The most common flat size (before folding) is 396 x 210mm which gives a 99 x 210mm finished size.

Concertina folds are used when the information needs to be presented to the reader in a slightly different way/order than is possible with a 6-page roll fold. One common use of this type of leaflet is for multi-language leaflets, where the information presented on each side of the leaflet is the same but in a different language. This type of fold is most commonly used on an A4 leaflet to produce a DL (99 x 210mm) finished size that is perfect for conveying information.
